GAMBIER, Ohio - Despite finishing on the wrong end of a 5-0 scoreline, Oberlin College field hockey held their own against the North Coast Athletic Conference preseason number one, Kenyon College in a Tuesday afternoon matchup.
The Ladies got on the board early with a goal in the 6th minute and kept the offensive pressure high with two more scores in the 13th and 15th.
The Yeowomen had trouble finding traction offensively early on and the Ladies goal pushed the scoreline to 4-0 heading into the intermission.
Kenyon's high-powered offense was just too much for the Crimson and Gold as the Ladies fired 34 shots, 21 of them on target. The Yeowomen couldn't breakthrough the active Kenyon midfield and defensive front managing only three shots at the Ladies keepers.
Seniors
Ariana Enzerink,
Julia Birenbaum and
Aditi Banerjee registered Oberlin's tthree attempts with Banerjee's and Birenbaum's chances landing on goal.
In the first minute of the second frame, Kenyon snuck another shot past second-year netmidner
Kennedy Kline, but the Yeowomen managed to keep the Ladies out for the remainder of regulation.Â
Kline closed the day with a career-high 16 saves in Gambier to move her season total to 29.
Oberlin College field hockey will return to action on Saturday afternoon as they continue NCAC play with the Quakers of Earlham College in the 2016 home opener.
The opening faceoff is scheduled for 11 a.m. from the turf of Bailey Field at the Austin E. Knowlton Complex.
