Yeowomen Take Down Otterbein on the Road

Westerville, OH  - The Oberlin College women's lacrosse team earned its sixth victoy of the season, earning a 12-7 road win at Otterbein University on Wednesday night.

The Yeowomen moved 6-3 on the season by controlling possession and limiting the Cardinals' chances throughout the match. The seven goals surrendered by the Yeowomen ties a season low for the second least amount of goals allowed in a game.

Offensively, Maggie Mullard and Suzanna Doak guided the Yeowomen as they each scored four goals with Doak also adding a pair of assists. Natalie Rauchle and Marissa Maxfield also added two goals in the win. Maxfield added a team-best six ground balls and three draw controls to her final line.

The Yeowomen won 15 of the game's 20 draws with Rauchle (4) and Mullard (3) combining for seven.

Oberlin raced out to a 6-0 lead, scoring its first three goals on free-position attempts. Doak cashed in the game's first goal less than three minutes in and Mullard would then follow with a pair of 8-meter finishes of her own.

The Cardinals got on the board with 6:55 left in the session, but Maxfield answered right back by taking a feed from Doak and sending in her second score of the game. Otterbein would post another tally before the first half would end to make it a 7-2 Yeowomen advantage at the intermission.

The second session was much more closely contested with both teams scoring five times over the final 30 minutes. Mullard's final goal of the game at the 13:12 mark gave Oberlin a comfortable seven-goal cushion at 11-4, but the Cardinals did try to claw their way back by scoring three of the game's final four goals.

Oberlin had a 28-17 advantage in shots, which included a 21-13 edge in shots on goal. The Yeowomen also finished with a slight 29-27 edge in ground balls.

Alexa L'Insalata worked all 60 minutes in goal and totaled six saves.

The Yeowomen will play their first conference home game on Saturday when Ohio Wesleyan University comes to town for a 1 p.m. showdown.
