Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College women's lacrosse team used a diverse attack with eight different players scoring in the game en route to racking up a 15-5 win over the visiting Ohio Wesleyan University Battling Bishops on Saturday afternoon.
The cold and wet weather didn't slow down the high-powered offense of the Yeowomen as they reached the 15-goal plateau for the sixth time this season.
Sophomore
Natalie Rauchle, who is one of the conference's top scorers, added a team-high three goals to her season account to run her team-leading total up to 36. She also added two assists to finish with five points on the afternoon.
Hayley Drapkin,
Grace Barlow,
Hannah Heinke-Green,
Maggie Mullard and
Suzanna Doak each registered two goals in the victory.
With the win, Oberlin moved to 7-3 overall and 2-0 in the NCAC. The Bishops dropped back to 5-4 and 0-1 in league action.
With snow falling, the second half is where the Yeowomen pulled away as they held the Bishops to just one goal while sending in eight of their own.
The Bishops netted the game's first goal, but Rauchle followed just seconds later with a free-position goal. The sophomore from Edina, Minnesota, then registered her first helper of the game on Barlow's first score to make it 2-1.
Midway through the opening half it was tied 3-3, but four straight Yeowomen goals created a comfortable margin.
Marissa Maxfield buried an 8-meter attempt and Doak followed with back-to-back goals before Rauchle tacked on her second of the half. OWU would score in the closing moments to shrink the gap to 7-4 at the intermission.
However, the second half it was all Oberlin from the onset as five straight goals to start the period pushed the lead out to 12-4 and the Yeowomen never looked back from there.
First-year
Sarah Conner would complete the game's scoring as she cashed in a free-position goal with 35 seconds left to play for her first collegiate goal.
Oberlin finished with a 32-18 advantage in shots and won 14 of the game's 22 draw controls. Rauchle, Barlow and
Sydney Allen led the way with three draws each.
Alexa L'Insalata impressed between the pipes as she made 11 saves to run her season total up to 74.
The Yeowomen will be back in action next Saturday when they travel to Denison University for a 1 p.m. showdown.
