Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Yeowomen’s Comeback Falls Short at Rhodes

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Oberlin College women's lacrosse fell behind 6-3 before the halftime intermission, and rallied in the second half to tie it late, before the Lynx found the game winning in the closing minutes to hand the Yeowomen a loss before heading back north.

Senior Grace Barlow tried diligently to earn the Yeowomen their second victory in the Volunteer State with 5 goals in the contest. Barlow's five goal performance pushes her season total to 24, three behind scoring-leader Natalie Rauchle, while she sits as the team's leading point-getter with 34.

After toppling SUNY-New Paltz, 15-7, on Monday, the Yeowomen remained in Tennessee to battle Rhodes in a mid-week matchup.

Barlow drew first blood 1:46 into the battle on an unassisted goal, but the Lynx struck back with four unanswered goals against Oberlin's starting goalie Alexa L'Insalata. Trailing by three, Barlow caged her second and third of the night with a Rhodes goal wedged in between.

With the Oberlin deficit at 5-3, the Lynx tacked on their sixth score of the night before the half.

Out of the break, the Yeowomen netted two consecutive goals to cut the lead to one, 6-5, with Michaela Puterbaugh and Marissa Maxfield, sneaking shots passed the Lynx netminder Katherine Tooley.

The Lynx answered, but Barlow struck back to keep the Yeowomen within one, minutes later. Rhodes responded to move the scoreline to 8-6 in their favor.

Within 30 seconds of falling behind by two, senior Suzanna Doak rattled home her first tally of the night. Minutes later, Barlow came through with the equalizer and her fifth of the night to knot the game at 8-8 and complete the second half comeback.

Unfortunately, the Lynx weren't done offensively as they flung a shot that snuck around first-year keeper Siena Marcelle with 1:54 left in regulation. The Yeowomen couldn't gain enough momentum to find the tying goal before time expired to close their southern swing at 1-1.

The Oberlin women slide to 4-3 overall as they head to DePauw University on Saturday to open North Coast Athletic Conference play.

The Yeowomen and Tigers will square off in the NCAC lid-lifter on Saturday, March 26, at 11 a.m.
