Memphis, TN – The Oberlin College women's lacrosse team started spring break with a commanding 15-7 win over SUNY-New Paltz on the campus of Rhodes College on Monday afternoon.
Sophomore
Natalie Rauchle continued her torrid scoring pace as she led the Yeowomen five goals, while
Marissa Maxfield and
Grace Barlow each added four. Rauchle now has a team-best 27 goals on the season.
Rookie netminder
Siena Marcelle went all 60 minutes between the pipes and finished with eight saves in her first collegiate start.
Oberlin started the game up 3-0 with Barlow, Maxfield and Rauchle all finding the back of the net. First-year
Hayley Drapkin assisted on the middle goal scored by Maxfield.
New Paltz responded with back-to-back goals of its own, but the Yeowomen broke open the contest with four goals and ultimately took an 8-3 cushion into the intermission.
Senior
Suzanna Doak cashed in the first goal of the second half to put Oberlin on top by six. The Hawks would later get within five at 11-6, but the eventual outcome was never in jeopardy.
Hannah Heinke-Green, Maxfield and Barlow all scored in the final eight minutes of the game to put the final touches on a strong Yeowomen win to get end their mini two-game skid and run their record to 4-2.
Oberlin finished with a 29-24 edge in shots, won the ground ball battle 19-15 and was successful on 16-of-18 clear attempts.
The Yeowomen will take on Rhodes on Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m. CDT.
