Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Yeomen Close Season With NCAC Tourney Loss at Wooster

WOOSTER, Ohio - A slow start for the #7 seed Oberlin College men's basketball team was their undoing as they fell at the #2 seed College of Wooster, 78-63, in the opening round of the 2015-16 North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament.

Head coach Isaiah Cavaco and company returned to Wooster after dropping the season finale to the Scots, 97-56, on Saturday.

Playing in his final game, senior Randy Ollie netted 15 points to run his career total to 1,077 points, placing him 20th on the all-time scoring list. Junior guard Jack matched his effort with 15 points, while Scott Miller earned the started and finished with 11 points in the setback.

The Scots roared out to an 8-0 lead in the opening 2:22, forcing Cavaco to burn a 30-second timeout. Oberlin misfired on the next three possession falling behind 12-0 before Zach Meyers rattled in a mid-range jumper for two of his nine points off the bench.

The Scots slowly piled onto their lead, extending it to as much as 17 with under two minutes to play in the half. A three-ball from Miller drew back the Yeomen deficit to 14 with under one minute remaining, which is where it would stay as Wooster held a 36-22 lead at the intermission.

Out of the break, the Oberlin deficit grew to it's largest margin, 24 points, just 7:31 into the second when the Scots' Milt Davis knocked down a three-pointer making it 52-28.

Oberlin chipped away a little at a time, but Wooster maintained a comfortable lead into the closing minutes. Trailing by 18, 66-44, the Yeomen composed a would-be comeback to cut the Wooster lead to single-digits for the first time since early in the first half.

A huge three-ball from Nathan Cohen with 4:39 remaining sparked a 15-6 run in the next three minutes, hacking the Scots lead to nine with 1:37 left in regulation. On the ensuing Wooster possession, Reece Dupler banged home a layup to put Wooster up 11 and even any threat of a comeback.

The Yeomen struggled to find any offensive rhythm inside of the hostile surroundings of Timken Gymnasium, while the Scots finished 30-of-61 (49.2%) from the field while going 15-of-17 (88.2%) from the charity stripe.

As a collective, Oberlin went 20-of-62 from the field and 8-of-32 (25%) beyond the arc and were out performed in the paint to the tune of 46-16 in favor of the Scots. On the glass, the Yeomen's effort just wasn't enough as Wooster hauled in 46 boards to Oberlin's 33.

The Yeomen end the year at 12-14 overall, marking just the second time in 30 years the Oberlin men have recorded consecutive double-digit victory seasons. On the year, the Yeomen finished 7-11 against conference opponents.
