Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College women's basketball team dropped its home opener to the University of Mount Union, 67-42, on Monday night Philips Gym.
In the midst of four-game stretch over eight days, the Yeowomen elected to rest most of their starters for much of the evening. Other than freshman guard
Sarah Thompson, who played 20 minutes, the remaining four starters consisting of
Abby Andrews,
Olivia Canning,
Tyler Parlor and
Alex Stipano combined to play just 26 minutes in the game.

All 18 players who dressed for the Yeowomen saw time in the game with 11 different players registering a point in the contest. First-years
Jasmine Sorrells and
Cheyenne Arthur led Oberlin with six points each, while fellow rookie
Ally Driscoll paced the team with six rebounds.
With Oberlin playing at full strength in the first quarter, the score was tied at 10 with 3:10 left to play. However, the Yeowomen's next points wouldn't come until the 7:46 mark of the second quarter as Mount Union opened up 23-12 lead.
A baseline jumper from
Briana Santiago cut the deficit down to seven, 26-19 with 4:06 left in the half, but the Purple Raiders closed the frame on an 11-2 run to take a 37-21 advantage into the locker room.
Oberlin was never able to threaten the outcome in the second half as Mount Union would lead by no less than 14 points over the final 20 minutes of play.
The Purple Raiders, who were led by Rachel Tinkey's 17 points off the bench, used the long-range shot to their advantage, connecting on 14-of-27 triple-tries for a blistering 51.9 percent success rate. Tinkey dialed in on 5-of-7 shots from deep, while Abbey Bartoszewicz cashed in on 4-of-9 attempts from beyond the arc.
Oberlin finished the game 19-of-57 from the floor (33.3%), which included a 2-of-8 showing from 3-point land. The Yeowomen also went just 2-of-7 at the free throw line.
The loss dropped OC back to 1-4 on the season, while Mount Union went above the .500 mark at 3-2.
However, the Yeowomen will look to go 2-0 in NCAC play on Wednesday night against the Scots. It will be their final home game of 2016 with four more road contests to follow before the new year. Tip-off against Wooster is set for 7:30 p.m.
