ANGOLA, Ind. - Junior Tyler Parlor posted her first double-double of the year but it wasn't enough to lift Oberlin College women's basketball past Trine University as they fell, 57-41, on Tuesday night.
Coming off of their first conference victory of the campaign, the Yeowomen couldn't find their mojo from beyond the arch on Tuesday night to slip to 1-2 overall. The Crimson and Gold finished 0-10 from 3-point range, and shot just 36.5 percent (19-of-52) from the floor on the evening. The Thunder checked in went 21-of-51 (41.2%) from the field and knocked down 3-of-9 from beyond the arch to deliver Oberlin the second blemish of the campaign.
The Yeowomen captured a seven-point advantage, 11-4, early on, but the Thunder cut the Oberlin lead to 12-9 to end of the first quarter. After a bucket from reigning North Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Week Olivia Canning, the Thunder used a three-point play to pull even 16-16.
The Thunder would take the lead 19-18 in the next few possessions and never look back. Trine closed the half on a 6-2 run in the final 3:22 and the Yeowomen would trail, 29-24, at the break.
Yeowomen offense couldn't find the magic out of the intermission. The Thunder outscored the Crimson and Gold 13-6 in the third to grab control of the game. Turnovers plagued the Crimson and Gold throughout the battle as the Thunder bucketed 19 points off of 22 Oberlin give-aways.
Trailing 42-30 entering the fourth quarter, the Yeowomen managed 11 points, but the Thunder kept the offensive pressure high and tacked on 15 to close the bout.
In the final frame, Anna Moore led the way for the Yeowomen with four points off the bench to go along with contributions from Parlor, Alex Stipano and Ally Driscoll.
Parlor's double-double performance was the fifth of her career. The Detroit, Michigan native is averaging eight points a game and has tallied 24 rebounds through the first-three contests.
Behind Parlor, Stipano and rookie Jasmine Sorrells notch six points in the loss, followed by Canning and Driscoll with five each.
Oberlin women's basketball returns to the hardwood on Saturday, November 26 when they travel to the east-side on Cleveland to take on the Case Western Reserve University Spartans. Tipoff is slated for 2 p.m.
