Yeowomen Fall in Finale

OBERLIN, Ohio - Oberlin college field hockey entertained Concordia University Wisconsin in the 2016 finale and suffered a 2-0 loss on Sunday afternoon.

The Yeowomen sported their home whites and white socks with multi-color puzzle pieces in support of Autism Awareness as they battled the Falcons.

It was an even tussle early on with the two sides splitting ten shots through the first stanza. In her final appearance in between the pipes, senior goalie Maggie Gossiaux posted four saves against the Falcons concluding the year with 176 stops and registering two-20 save games during the campaign.

A two-time first team all-conference selection Gossiaux halued in 684 career saves.

The Falcons tested the Metuchen, New Jersey native for the first time just three minutes in after driving into the Yeowomen's defensive end and earning a penalty corner. A save from Gossiaux following the set piece held the match scoreless. A few more attempts in the following minutes led to Concordia's Kelsey Fulton tallying her first score of the day.

The Yeowomen's offense got going minutes later when Ariana Enzerink and Maureen Coffey traded shots. The Yeowomen closed the half with a valiant attempt to pull the scoreline even but Kennedy Boyer in the Concordia net was unwavering.

The Crimson and Gold would take a one-goal deficit into the half. Just under ten minutes into the closing 35-minute frame, the Falcons added to their lead with Fulton besting Gossiaux once more. The Yeowomen couldn't gain traction offensively as they finished with seven shots as a unit.

Coffey and Enzerink led the Oberlin charge with two shots each, one on goal. Senior Aditi Banerjee, sophomore Amelia Huang and rookie Libby Royer got into the mix with one shot each.

The loss slips the Yeowomen to 1-17 on the year with the loss.
