DELAWARE, Ohio – Oberlin College women's basketball made it four straight victories with the help of
Abby Andrews' career-high 18 points as the Yeowomen took down Ohio Wesleyan University, 63-58.
Andrews led the Yeowomen with her third double-double performance of the season with 18 points on 8-of-12 (66.6%) shooting and 12 rebounds to accompany her two blocks and two steals in the win.
Andrews' stellar performance against the Bishops was followed with 11 points from sophomore
Tyler Parlor and senior
Caroline Hamilton. Parlor rattled off a 4-of-10 (40%) performance from the floor, including a perfect 3-of-3 at the charity stripe. The Detroit, Michigan, native also added seven rebounds and a team-high six assists. Hamilton finished with 11 points on 4-of-9 (44.4%) with one rebound.
In the opening stanza, the Battling Bishops capitalized on an 8-2 soring run in the final three minutes to end the quarter with a three-point advantage, 15-12.
The Oberlin women rattled off another 12 points in the second quarter, but the Bishops kept the upper hand, taking a 28-24 lead into the half. The Yeowomen outshot the Bishops in the first and for most of the night, despite trailing, by four at the break.
Out of the half, the Yeowomen erased the OWU lead within the first 2:00 of the third quarter. Oberlin opened on an 8-4 run that ended with a three-ball from Hamilton to tie the game at 32-32. Over the next eight minutes, Oberlin catapulted to a seven-point advantage courtesy of a 15-8 scoring run.
The 23-point third quarter gave the Yeowomen enough momentum to stave off the Bishops in the fourth, by not due to a lack of effort from Ohio Wesleyan. Oberlin extended their advantage to eight, 50-42, on a layup from Parlor at the 7:55 mark, but the Bishops surged back within one.
An 11-4 streak by OWU pulled the game to 54-53, but the Yeowomen burst back to a seven-point edge in the next 1:40. With 1:30 remaining, the Yeowomen cruised their fourth straight North Coast Athletic Conference win, 63-58.
The Yeowomen out performed the Bishops in the field with a brilliant night, shooting 26-of-52 (50%) compared to OWU's 25-of-57 (43.9%).
Oberlin women's basketball returns home on Saturday, January 23, to take on the Allegheny College Gators. Tipoff from Philips Gymnasium between the Gators and Yeowomen is slated for 1 p.m.
