Yeowomen Take Care of Scots in Midweek Tilt

WOOSTER, Ohio - Oberlin College women's basketball team traveled down to the College of Wooster on Wednesday night and collected their second consecutive win, holding off the Fighting Scots, 54-49.

It was a teeter-totter matchup with four ties and nine lead changes through four quarters.

Wooster put the Yeowomen behind, 16-14, after the first ten-minute stanza, and extended their advantage before the half. The Yeowomen were held to eight points in the second quarter to head into the halftime break trailing by five, 27-22.

Out of the intermission, the Oberlin offense found traction and the Yeowomen began to chip away at Wooster's lead. The Fighting Scots remained in control for most of the third, until a layup from Tyler Parlor gave the Yeowomen a one-point a 1-point advantage, 36-35, for the first time in 20 minutes of basketball.

The Scots took back their lead on the ensuing possession, but a jumper from Eleanor Van Buren fell through taking the score to 38-37 heading into the decisive fourth quarter.

The Yeowomen kept the upper hand in the opening minutes, extending their lead to as much as seven, 46-39, with 7:02 remaining in regulation.

The Fighting Scots would not be denied as they sliced away the Oberlin advantage to take a 49-48 lead with just 40 seconds left.

A critical three-ball from Lindsey Bernhardt swung the Yeowomen to a two-point lead, forcing the Scots to foul. Bernhardt and Abby Andrews combined to knock down 3-of-4 free throws in the closing seconds to secure a second North Coast Athletic Conference win for the Oberlin women.

Andrews led the Yeowomen offensively with 14 points on 6-of-11 (54.5%) shooting to go along with eight rebounds and two steals. First-year Olivia Canning complimented Andrews in the post with her second double-double showing of the year. Canning finished with 11 points on 4-of-8 (50%) from the field and a game-high 12 rebounds.

Parlor finished with 10 points, marking her fifth double-figure performance in her last six outings. She nearly tallied another double-double for the Yeowomen, finishing with nine rebounds.

The win propels the Yeowomen above .500 to 8-7 overall and 2-4 in conference play.

The Yeowomen return home for a Saturday afternoon NCAC women's-men's double-header where they will host the Wittenberg University Tigers.

The Yeowomen and Tigers will tipoff at 1 p.m. inside of Philips Gymnasium, followed by the men's matchup vs. Hiram at 3 p.m.
