Yeomen Unable to Ground the Golden Eagles

Oberlin, Ohio – The College at Brockport scored on four of its first five possessions and never looked back en route to earning a commanding 44-7 win over the Oberlin College Yeomen on Saturday afternoon at the Austin. E. Knowlton Athletics Complex.

The Golden Eagles ran 73 plays and racked up 452 yards, while the Yeomen were held to just 161 yards of total offense.

Senior Justin Williams was the lone bright spot of the Yeomen offense, rushing for 65 yards on 14 carries. Junior Justin Cruz, who found the endzone late in the second quarter, finished with 44 yards on four catches.

Senior quarterback Lucas Poggiali was unable to find a rhythm, as he was 7-of-19 passing for 58 yards with an interception that was returned 31 yards for a touchdown. Sophomore Christian Flynn, who lined up at various positions throughout the game, did not complete a pass on five attempts, while rushing for 24 yards on seven attempts.

Brockport running back Dan Andrews scored the first three touchdowns for the Golden Eagles as he ran in from 3,6 and 7 yards out to make it 21-0 Brockport lead. He finished with 95 yards on 22 rushes and also added 53 yards through the air on two catches.

Later trailing 28-0 late in the second quarter, the Yeomen took advantage of great field position as they took over at the Brockport 27. Poggiali and Cruz connected for a 20-yard gain on 3rd-and-10. The next play he went right back to him for the Yeomen's lone score of the game.

In the second half the Yeomen never really threatened, while Brockport went on to add 16 more points on Ian Gilhousen's 44-yard catch-and-run TD, Tyler Perna's 34-yard field and Alex Eggliner's 31-yard interception return for a touchdown.

Justin Bute and Gabe Edwards led the Yeomen defense with eight tackles each, while they also both registered a tackle-for-loss. Larry Leggett also had a strong game from his safety spot, finishing with six solo tackles.

The Yeomen will look to bounce back next week when league rival Kenyon College comes to town for a 6 p.m. showdown.
