ResultsGambier, Ohio – The Oberlin College track and field teams continued to ready themselves for the 2015 North Coast Athletic Conference Championship meet, competing at the Kenyon College Spring Invitational on Saturday.
The Yeowomen placed third out of nine teams with 118 points, while the Yeomen fourth out of eight schools with 96 points.
On the track, senior
Ashley Parish was busy as she placed third in the 200 meters (25.98), fifth in the 100 meters (13.07) and ran the second leg on the 4x400 relay (4:08.14) and 4x100 relay (50.62) teams that placed second and third, respectively.
In the 800 meters,
Deirdre Haren took third place in 2:19.11, while
Calista Diehl was the top attached runner in the 5,000 meters with a time of 19:56.62.
First-year
Lilah Drafts-Johnson continued her strong rookie campaign, turning in a second-place showing in the 400-meter dash with a time of 58.64.
School-recorder
Monique Newton swept the shot put (42-09.75) and discus (144-07), besting her school-record discuss toss by over four feet. That new standard moves her to 12
th in the country. Classmate
Ana Richardson was second in the discus (137-03) and fourth in the shot put (34-11.25). Richardson was also third in the hammer with a mark of 132-06.
Senior, sprinter
Jerry Choi who bested the field in both the 200 and 400-meter dash led the Oberlin men. In the 200, Choi clocked a time of 22.71 before dusting the field of competitors in the 400 with a time of 50.60.
In the men's 800,
Joshua Urso and
Kyle Tribble went one-two earning crucial team points for the Yeomen. Urso completed the two-lap trek in 1:55.43, while Tribble crossed the finish line in 1:57.46.
In the final race of the night, the Yeomen won the 4X400 meter relay. The quartet of Tribble,
Ian Smith,
Evan Finch and Urso finished with a time of 3:27.46 to beat the field of nine other teams.
Before joining with the top 4x400 team, Finch won the men's high jump with a mark of 6-02.00 (1.88m).
The Yeomen continued to have success in the field events with a second place finish from
Nathan Danko in the pole vault. Danko hit the height of 14-00.0 (4.27m).
The Oberlin track and field teams will have their final tune-up next weekend with select runners going to the Hillsdale Gina Relays, while others will be closer to home at the Ashland University Invite. Oberlin will also serve as the NCAC Combined Events host on Saturday and Sunday.
