Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College women's lacrosse team scored early and often, defeating the visiting Hiram College Terriers 20-5 on Thursday afternoon at the Austin E. Knowlton Athletics Complex.
The Yeowomen opened up a 9-0 lead midway through the first half before surrendering their first goal to the Terriers.
Junior
Grace Barlow started the game with goals 36 and 37 for the season to kick off her hat trick performance. She also added a career-high four assists to finish with seven points.
Before four minutes of game time expired,
Maggie Mullard would deposit back-to-back goals to make it 4-0. Later in the period,
Sydney Garvis would score two times and Barlow would complete her three-goal day with the help of a
Kate Hanick feed.
Suzanna Doak would also cash in her first of four goals on the day, tying a season - and career-high total. First-year
Natalie Rauchle also registered two scores with her first coming on a free-position attempt. The Yeowomen rookie from Edina, Minnesota, would tack on one more in the second half to secure her first collegiate hat trick.
Sara Phister also sent home a first-half goal before adding on another in the second half to run her season total to 32.
With a 13-1 lead in hand at the intermission, Oberlin continued to attack as Hanick got into the scoring mix after being setup by Barlow. She would go on to add one more as she now has 14 on the season.
The Yeowomen finished with a 32-11 edge in shots, 20-13 advantage in ground balls, and won 19 of the game's 26 draws.
Morgan Daruwala led Oberlin with six draws, while Doak added five.
With the win the Yeowomen stopped a two-game skid and moved to 9-3 overall and 3-2 in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Hiram fell to 3-9 and 0-6 in league play.
Oberlin is back in action on Saturday when it host Denison University at 4:15 p.m. Prior to the game, the team will honor its senior members.
