Women's ResultsGreencastle, IN – The Oberlin College track and field teams shined on day one of the North Coast Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship meet.
The Yeowomen trail meet leader Ohio Wesleyan by just four points as they totaled a team score of 44 points through just five events, while the Yeomen rest in fourth place with 23.33 points through seven scored events.
"This is the best first day we have ever had," Head Coach
Ray Appenheimer said. "We had so many amazing performances and school records go down, I can't wait to see what we do tomorrow."
Senior
Sarah Jane Kerwin was a conference champion in the 5,000 meters as she bested the 18-runner field in 17:45.61. Classmate
Emma Lehmann also earned All-NCAC honors by placing third with a timestamp of 17:49.99. First-year
Peyton Boughton was seventh in 19:01.67.
Rookie
Monique Newton claimed a conference title in her first-ever meet, winning the shot put with a toss of 42-09.75.
First-year standouts
Annie Goodridge and
Lilah Drafts-Johnson placed second and third in the triple jump to earn All-NCAC accolades. Goodridge posted a mark of 35-08.50, while Drafts-Johnson cleared 35-00.50. Drafts-Johnson also qualified third in the 400 meters with a time of 59.37.
On the men's end, the foursome of
Joshua Urso,
Ian Smith,
Owen Mittenthal and
Geno Arthur claimed a conference title with a school-record time of 10:19.76 in the distance medley relay.
Nathan Danko also established a new school best in the pole vault as he cleared 14-06 to place second overall.
Dan Bolotsky etched his name atop the Oberlin record book, setting a new school record in the weight throw with a toss of 47-01.50 to place sixth in the event.
Tomorrow will feature a full slate of events with hopefully more school records being set.
