Yeowomen Use a Big Second Half to Down Loggers

Tacoma, WA – The Oberlin College women's lacrosse team outscored the University of Puget Sound Loggers 8-3 in the second half en route to a 13-8 win on Tuesday night.

Senior Kate Hanick deposited a season-high four goals and scooped up a team-high five ground balls to lead the Oberlin attack. Sydney Garvis, Sara Phister, Suzanna Doak and Grace Barlow each added two scores in the win.

The Yeowomen won 18 of the game's 23 draw controls with Garvis leading the way with five. Morgan Daruwala and Jodi Helsel each finished with four.

The first half was tightly contested as either team could create separation from one another. Barlow's 18th tally of the year with 5:16 left in the frame made it a 5-3 Yeowomen advantage, but the Loggers responded by scoring two times to tie the game at the intermission.

Early in the second half, Garvis netted her second score of the night and then Maggie Mullard would finish off a feed from Hanick to make it a 7-5 game.

Oberlin was clinging to an 8-7 cushion with 15 minutes left to play, but back-to-back scores from Hanick and Phister would extend the Yeowomen lead out to three at 10-7.

The Loggers' Callie Holgate would add her 11th score of the year to cut the gap to two, but Hanick, Doak and Phister would all score in the final six minutes to leave now doubt in the eventual outcome.

Alexa L'Insalata played all 60 minutes in goal and made 12 saves to run her season total to 43.

The Yeowomen have now won three straight games and sit at 5-1 on the season. They will be back in action on Thursday against George Fox University. The opening draw is set for 6 p.m. PDT.
