Alliance, Ohio – The Oberlin College women's lacrosse team suffered its first blemish of the season, falling 15-9 at the University of Mount Union on Saturday afternoon.
The Purple Raiders scored six of the game's final eight goals to pull away as they remained unbeaten on the year at 4-0. The Yeowomen dropped to 2-1.
Grace Barlow led the Yeowomen attack with three goals, running her season total to 10 on the year.
It was nip and tuck through the first 45 minutes of the game. In the closing moments of the first half back-to-back free-position goals from
Maggie Mullard and
Suzanna Doak tied the game at 5-5, but the Purple Raiders scored two times in the final 2:49 to take a 7-5 lead into the intermission.
Barlow would again cut the deficit down to one, 7-6, just 34 seconds into the second half. Her third goal of the game would later make it 9-7 with 18:37 remaining in the contest.
Unfortunately, Mount Union responded with four straight scores to create a six-goal separation with just 6:12 left on the clock.
Senior
Kate Hanick temporarily halted the Purple Raiders' scoring run, and Mullard would later score her second goal of the game, but it wasn't enough.
Sophomore
Sara Phister and first-year
Sydney Garvis also registered scores for the Yeowomen.
Mount Union finished with a slight 26-22 edge in shots, while ground balls were even at 16 each. However, Mount ended with a 16-10 advantage in draw controls.
Oberlin will be back in action on Wednesday night at John Carroll University. The opening draw is set for 6 p.m.
