ResultsOberlin, Ohio – With a full roster now in place due to the conclusion of winter term, the depth of the Oberlin College track and field teams was on display at the John W. Heisman Field House on Friday night. The Yeowomen won the event with 244.60 points, while the Yeomen were victorious with 195 points.
"It was a good night and great to have everyone back," Head Coach
Ray Appenheimer said. "We had many strong performances and we are only going to get better from here."
It was a good start for the Oberlin women in the field events. Sophomore
Ave Spencer cleared 10-11.75 in the pole vault to take the top spot, while first-year teammate Sofia Moscovitz added six more team points by placing third with a mark of 8-11.75. Ave took a run at trying to best the school record of 11-01.5, held by Laura Vernon, but was unable to get over the bar at that height on this night.
The Yeowomen took four out of the top five places in the weight throw. First-year
Ana Richardson finished first with a toss of 48-04.75. Sophomore
Hannah Tyburski followed with a lifetime-best heave of 44-feet to place second.
Caitlyn Grubb ended fourth with a mark of 40-09.5, while
Monique Newton followed in at 40-02.25.
The dynamic duo of Newton and Richardson returned to go 1-2 in the shot put. Newtown's winning throw sailed 41-01, while Richardson was second with a mark of 37-05.75.
First-year
Lilah Drafts-Johnson added another Yeowomen win in the triple jump, clearing 33-08.75. She later returned to top the 12-person field in the 400 with a time of 1:01.20. Teammate
Ashley Parish was third in 1:03.71.
Three Yeowomen ended in the top four in the 800 meters with senior
Carey Lyons winning the race in 2:28.43. First-year
Mia Bates ended third in 2:37.21, while senior
Rose Stoloff was one spot back in 2:38.59.
It was a tight 1-2 Oberlin finish in the women's 200 with senior
Julia Skrovan edging out newcomer
Annie Goodridge 29.05 to 29.30.
At the end of the evening, senior
Sarah Jane Kerwin won the 3,000 by 40 seconds with a time of 10:39.34.
The Oberlin men also turned three wins in the field events. It was
Sam Black who bested nine other competitors to win the long jump with a mark of 20-01.
Evan Finch cleared 6-02 to win the high jump, while
Nathan Danko was victorious in the pole vault as he soared 13-11.75.
In the men's mile it was 1-2 Yeomen finish with sophomore
Bradley Hamilton winning the event in 4:43.98. Freshman
Zachary Patti followed in 4:46.76.
The Yeomen won the 4x200-meter relay by nearly seven seconds with a time of 1:35.75.
Jerry Choi led off the group and rookie
Ian Smith, Black and freshman
James Tanford followed him. Choi (52.93) also led the trio of Smith (55.13) and Tanford (55.39) in the 400 meters.
The men's 800 featured four Yeomen in the top five. Rookie
Owen Mittenthal won the event in 2:06.48, while sophomore
Kyle Tribble was second in 2:08.80.
Ben Stassen (2:10.71) was fourth with fellow sophomore
Hannon Ayer (2:12.37) checking in fifth.
In the final men's event of the night, the Yeomen claimed the top three spots in the 9-person field in the 3,000. Junior
Robert Moreton headlined the trio in 9:10.78, while sophomore
E.J. Douglas followed in 9:17.16. Senior
Andrew Witcher rounded out the top three in 9:35.95.
Oberlin will be back in action next Friday at Baldwin Wallace University.
