GRANVILLE, Ohio – The Oberlin College women's basketball team struggled offensively in the first quarter and couldn't overcome their deficit, as they drop the first North Coast Athletic Conference matchup of the season at Denison, 64-46.
Offensively, the Yeowomen sputtered out of the gate scoring just nine points in the opening 10 minutes of action. The Big Red rattled off 21-first-quarter points to put the Oberlin women in a hole early.
However, despite the first quarter woes, the Yeowomen would only be outscored by a combined total of six points for the remaining three quarters.
Trailing by 16 at the half, 36-20, Oberlin couldn't fight back into it in the third as the Big Red took a 51-32 entering the fourth period. The Big Red kept the pressure on, but Oberlin ended up winning the final quarter, outscoring Denison, 14-13 to close the game.
Senior leading-scorer
Lindsey Bernhardt led the Oberlin ladies from the field, hitting on 4-of-14 (28.5%) for 15 points to accompany her three rebounds and one assist. Bernhardt was the lone Yeowomen to finish in double digits scoring.

Olivia Canning rattled off six points on a 3-of-6 (50.0%) performance from the floor with a team-high eight rebounds and three blocks.
Denison's Jordan Holmes had a historic night against the Yeowomen becoming Denison's all-time leading rebounder as she finished with a game-high 26 points on 11-of-17 (64.7%) shooting with a game-high 17 rebounds and eight blocks.
The loss slips the Yeowomen to 5-3 overall and 0-1 in the NCAC.
The next test for head coach
Kerry Jenkins and crew will be the Tartans of Carnegie Mellon. Tipoff from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on Saturday, December 5 is slated for 1 p.m.
