Greencastle, IN – The Oberlin College women's basketball team concluded the 2015 portion of its schedule, falling 63-45 at DePauw University on Saturday afternoon.
The Tigers, a perennial power in the conference and national scene, produced two 20-plus point quarters in the win.
Sophomore
Tyler Parlor was the lone Yeowomen in double figures as she finished with 12 points on 6-of-15 shooting. Backcourt mates
Caroline Hamilton and
Lindsey Bernhardt each chipped in with eight points in the setback, while junior
Connie Estevez contributed a career-high seven rebounds off the bench.
The Yeowomen have now dropped four straight to fall below .500 at 5-6 overall and remain winless in the league at 0-3. The Tigers improved to 7-2 and 2-0 in NCAC play.
Oberlin had no answers for the Tigers' Emily Budde as she finished with a game-high 21 points on 7-of-12 shooting.
DePauw's talents were on display from the opening tip-off, wasting no time to build up a 20-7 lead after one period of play. After going by down as many as 17 early in the second, Oberlin was able to shrink the gap down to 11, but would get no closer as the Tigers led 32-21 at the half.
The third quarter was action-packed on both ends of the floor with the Yeowomen producing 17 points, but the Tigers were even more impressive with 21 points in the period as they took a 53-38 lead into the final frame.
Scoring was at a premium for both sides in the fourth with DePauw netting 10 points compared to Oberlin's seven. However, their large lead was never in danger.
The Yeowomen shot 35.4-percent (17-of-48) from the floor, which include just a 3-of-15 (20%) showing from beyond the arc. The Tigers checked in at 41.7-percent, connecting on 25 of the 60 shots they hoisted.
Oberlin will now rest up for the holidays before returning to action on January 2 when it plays host to Kalamazoo College. Tip-time from Philips Gym is set for 1 p.m.
