Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Tigers Use a Big Second Half to Defeat Yeomen

Greencastle, IN – The Oberlin College men's basketball team closed out the 2015 calendar, falling 75-66 to the DePauw University Tigers on Saturday afternoon.

Oberlin trailed just 29-28 at the half, but the Tigers (3-5, 1-2 NCAC) used a big second half to earn their third win of the season and first NCAC victory. The Yeomen dropped down to 6-4 overall and 2-3 in conference play.

Junior Nathan Cohen led the Oberlin attack with 17 points on 6-of-12 shooting, including a 4-of-8 effort from beyond the arc. Freshman Eli Silverman-Lloyd added 14 points off the bench in 17 minutes of work. Zach Meyers chipped in with 10 points to round out the double-digit point producers for the Yeomen.

Oberlin controlled the first 10 minutes of action, building up a 17-9 lead at the 9:57 mark on Scott Miller's 3-pointer. The Tigers responded with a 14-2 run over the next five minutes to claim a 23-19 advantage of their own. The Yeomen would tie it at 23, but went into the intermission down by the slimmest of margins.

Early in the second half the score was tied at 36, but DePauw would open up the game with a 12-3 spurt. The Yeomen would cut the deficit down to four on multiple occasions, but could get no closer the rest of the way.

The Yeomen trailed 53-49 with just over eight minutes to play, but the Tigers kept up the pressure and would only increase the lead down the stretch.

Four of the five Tigers' starters finished in double figures, led by a game-high 20 points from David Vogel. As a team DePauw shot 44.3-percent (27-of-61) from the field, while the Yeomen checked in at just 34.4-percent (22-of-64).

The Yeomen will now rest up for the holidays before returning to action on January 2 at Division I Kent State University.
