Volleyball Closes Out Day Two of NCAC Tournament

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – Oberlin College volleyball finished eighth at the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament with losses to Kenyon and Allegheny College on Saturday.

Oberlin College volleyball opened Saturday with a loss in straight sets to the Kenyon College Ladies, 22-25, 16-25, 22-25, to move into the seventh/eighth place match at the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament.

In the consolation final, the Yeowomen took the second set from the Gators, but pounded the ball offensively and took down the Oberlin women in four sets; 16-25, 25-21, 14-25, 17-25.

Against Kenyon, junior Claudia Scott raised her tournament total to 21 kills with ten against the Ladies.  Oberlin's offense struggled to gain footing as second-year Dana Thomas and junior Ave Spencer finished out of double figures with 7 and 5 kills each in the morning matchup.

Thomas led the Yeowomen against the Gators with 12 kills, followed by Jillian Hostetler with nine. Spencer, first-year Sara Chang and Scott all finished with six kills in the consolation final.

Meredith Leung and Chang set up the Yeowomen all day with 14 and 8 assists against the Lords, while Leung registered a match-best 31 assists in the finals.

In the back, six different Yeowomen finished with five or more digs, led by Molly Powers with nine in the first match. Powers, Leung, Shavonne Stanek and Krista Langhans all finished in double figures with Powers leading the way with 21.

Powers closes out her career as a four-year starter and the program's all-time dig leaders with 1,829.

Leung and Hostetler closed out the season out on a high note with All-NCAC honors, both being pegged as honorable mention.

Leung received all-conference laurels for the second consecutive year by finishing with honorable mention accolades, while Hostetler adds her All-NCAC honors to the Athlete of the Week laurels she earned earlier in the year.
