Lords Outlast Yeomen in NCAC Semifinals

Gambier, Ohio – The top-seeded Lords of Kenyon found an early goal and made it stand up the rest of the way as they defeated the Oberlin College men's soccer team, 1-0, in the North Coast Athletic Conference Semifinals on Wednesday afternoon.

The Lords, who rank No. 1 in D3Soccer.com Top 25 Poll and No. 8 in the NSCAA Coaches Poll, struck just 14 minutes into the match as the dangerous Tony Amolo corralled a bouncing ball in the box and sent his right-footed strike into the lower left corner of the goal. It was his NCAC-leading 16th goal of the season.

The Yeomen tried to find the equalizer in the opening stanza as John Ingham and Trenton Bulucea both had attempts on goal that were denied by Sam Clougher. Bulucea had the better chance of the two, but his shot didn't have enough speed to get by the diving Clougher into the lower right corner.

In the second half the Yeomen chances were slim, but two promising crosses were thwarted by the Lords strong back line. The services from the near right side were courtesy of Dan Lev and Timothy Williams.e

However, Oberlin's best chance came in the final minute as a long ball got played into the box to Slade Gottlieb who redirected it towards Ingham, but his flick shot sailed just outside the left post.

Early in the 86th minute Jonah Blume-Kemkes also sent a left-footed shot from 24 yards out on the far right side that sailed wide of the goal.

Oberlin finished with eight total shots, but had just two shots on goal in the first half. The Lords triggered 16 shots with six on target. Kenyon also attempted six corners compared to the Yeomen's two.

Freshman Koryn Kraemer, who had to briefly leave the game late in the first half, finished with five saves for the Yeomen.

It was physical match-up on both sides as the Lords drew 13 whistles while the Yeomen had 11. Ingham and Kenyon's Woo Jeon also earned yellow cards in the match.

The Lords move into the NCAC Championship game on Saturday against the winner of the DePauw and Ohio Wesleyan match later this evening.

Oberlin, which will wait to see from the NCAA if it qualifies for a postseason invite, is now 11-7-1.
