Ollie’s Career-High Lifts Oberlin Over Alfred

Alfred, N.Y. – Randy Ollie scored a career-high 28 points in 30 minutes of work, leading the Oberlin College men's basketball team to a, 71-62, road win at Alfred State on Saturday afternoon.

Ollie, a 6-foot-10 center from Evanston, Illinois, was 7-of-9 from the field and made a career-high 14 free throws on a career-high 21 attempts. He also added eight rebounds in the win.

The Yeomen moved to 3-1 on the year, including a 2-1 mark on the road. Last year, Oberlin had its struggles away from Philips Gym, going just 2-12 away contests.

Nathan Cohen continued his strong start to the season as he was a very efficient 5-of-7 shooting for 15 points. Classmate Jack Poyle had an off-day with his shot, but still contributed with a career-best 12 rebounds.

Oberlin had an early 13-4 lead, but the Pioneers battled back to get within a deuce, 13-11, midway through the first half. However, the Yeomen would respond right back with a 17-1 outburst to take a 30-12 lead.

The Yeomen went into the intermission with a comfortable 36-21 advantage, but the Pioneers wouldn't go down without a fight. Alfred fought back to shrink the deficit down to seven, 46-39, with 11:10 left on the clock.

The pressure continued as Quadrelle Roberts' jumper made it just a one-point Yeomen lead, 55-54, at the 5:47 mark. A personal foul by Ollie and an Oberlin technical allowed Tyrone Roberts to hit four straight free throws to tie the game at 58 with 4:06 to go.

The Yeomen would settle down and push the lead back out to five, 66-61, with 91 ticks left on the clock. Following a pair of misses, the Pioneers were forced to foul and Oberlin was able was able to ice the game at the charity stripe.

The Yeomen hoisted 42 free throws in the game – making 24 for a 57.1-percent success rate. From the floor, the Yeomen were 21-of-43 for at 48.8-percent clip.
