Greenville, PA – Lindsey Bernhardt scored 26 points in 26 minutes, guiding the Oberlin College women's basketball team to a commanding, 85-57, road win over Thiel College on Monday night.
Bernhardt, a native of Miami, Florida, finished 7-of-17 from the floor, which included a 4-of-11 showing from beyond the arc. The noted markswoman was also a perfect 8-of-8 at the free throw line.
The Yeowomen wasted no time jumping on the Tomcats, as rookie
Alexandra Stipano scored Oberlin's first seven points to get herself in rhythm early and kickoff a 17-4 game-opening run. She finished with 16 points, cashing in four 3-pointers in her 26 minutes of work.
Thiel would make just two field goals in the opening period as Oberlin had a 23-7 lead after 10 minutes of play.
Oberlin continued to pour it on offensively while holding the Tomcats to 18.4-percent (7-of-38) shooting in the first half. The result was a 45-22 lead at the intermission. The Yeowomen twice led by as many of 25 in the frame before taking the 23-point cushion into the locker room.
The Tomcats out-scored the Yeowomen 18-17 in the third quarter, but Oberlin would extend its lead out to 29 early in the fourth to leave no doubt in the eventual outcome.
Caroline Hamilton, who scored a career-high 19 points off the bench in Saturday's win, got the start tonight and helped the Oberlin cause with nine points and a career-best seven assists.
The Yeowomen shot 38.7-percent (29-of-75), while the Tomcats were held to a 26.2-percent (17-of-65) success rate. Oberlin controlled the boards from start to finish, winning the rebounding battle 66-38, which included a 26-13 edge on the offensive end.
Oberlin is back in action on Friday when it takes on Illinois Wesleyan at 5:30 p.m. on the campus of Albion College in Albion, Michigan.
