LATROBE, Pa. – Oberlin College volleyball took a break for North Coast Athletic Conference competition to take on Thiel College and St. Vincent in a Saturday afternoon tri-match. After taking down Thiel, 3-1, the Yeowomen fell in straight sets to their host, St. Vincent, 3-0.
Oberlin took the first set from Thiel, before the Tomcats outlasted the Yeowomen, 30-28 to even the match at a set apiece.
Oberlin stuck back fiercely in the third with a swift 25-15 win before closing their first bout in the fourth, 25-23.
In the latter matchup, the Yeowomen fought hard, but the Bearcats held firmly to hand Oberlin a 3-0 defeat.
Sophomore
Claudia Scott led the offensive charge with 32 kills over the two bouts. The Cibolo, Texas native registered a team-high 292 hitting percentage. Scott's performance was followed by the efforts of
Jillian Hostetler,
Ave Spencer and
Dana Thomas who all finished in double-figures in Pennsylvania.
Hostetler fired off 24 kills against Thiel and St. Vincent, finishing with a hitting percentage of .100, while Spencer rattled off 18 kills and Thomas finished with 13.
On the service line, senior libero
Molly Powers led the Yeowomen with four aces, while setter
Meredith Leung struck home two service aces.
Powers led the defensive charge with 47 digs, though it was a team effort on the back line. Four Yeowomen finished with double-digit digs on Saturday. While Leung led the team with 84 assists over seven sets, she also tallied 31 digs.

Emily Kelkar,
Krista Langhans and Spencer contributed with 26, 19 and 12 digs each in the split.
The split with Thiel and St. Vincent moves the Yeowomen to 7-12 overall and they remain 2-3 in the North Coast Athletic Conference.
Oberlin volleyball returns to Philips Gymnasium for their 2015 home finale on Wednesday, October 21. The Yeowomen will enter the final leg of the NCAC schedule with the Allegheny College Gators.
