Gambier, OH - The Oberlin College women's basketball team earned a commanding, 56-40, conference road win at Kenyon College on Wednesday night.
The Yeowomen were paced by the duo of
Lindsey Bernhardt and
Christina Marquette. Bernhardt finished with 17 points on 5-of-11 shooting, while Marquette recorded her third double-double of the season with 18 points to go along with a season-high 14 rebounds.
The first portion of the game was tightly contested as the Yewomen were clinging to a 12-11 cushion with 12:32 left in the first half. However, Oberlin would use a 14-3 run that featured two
Caroline Hamilton triple-hits to take a 26-13 lead at the 7:42 mark. A 3-pointer from the Ladies with 6:01 to go would temporarily halt the Oberlin surge, but the bucket proved to the last of the half for Kenyon as Oberlin closed the session on an 11-0 spurt to take a 37-16 advantage into the locker room.
The Yeowomen shot a blistering 61-percent from down town in the first half, cashing in 8-of-13 triple tries in the period.
In the second half the Yeowomen cooled off some, but Kenyon never really threatened a comeback, getting no closer than 13 points when just 98 seconds remained.
After shooting 56-percent in the first half, the Yeowomen finished the game at 36.7-percent (18-of-49) from the floor, which included a 9-of-23 (39.1%) showing from downtown. The Yeowomen won the rebounding war 49-31, while the Oberlin bench bunch out-scored its counterpart 13-4.
Oberlin moved to 6-7 with the win and evened up its NCAC record at 2-2, while the Ladies dropped to 3-9 overall and 1-3 in league play.
The Yeowomen are back in action on Saturday afternoon at Hiram College. Tip-time is set for 1 p.m.
