Christina Marquette and
Lindsey Bernhardt scored in double-figures against the University of Chicago, but it wasn't enough as Oberlin College women's basketball dropped their final non-conference matchup of the season, 83-47.
Bernhardt notched her third consecutive game in double-figures with 13 points against the Maroons. The junior Miami, Florida native also registered four rebounds and three assists in the loss.
Marquette tallied a game-high 16 points to accompany her five rebounds, two assists and one steal. On the glass, first year
Tyler Parlor led the Yeowomen with six rebounds and finished with eight points and three steals.
Bernhardt and Marquette combined for the first seven Oberlin points, pulling the Yeowomen in front, 7-4. A 3-point jumper from Chicago's Ellie Greiner pulled the game even at 7-7. The Maroons grabbed the lead, 10-7 and would not trail for the rest of the contest.
The Yeowomen clawed at the Chicago advantage but could only manage to pull within one at 16-15 at the 7:27 mark in the first half. The Maroons went on a 20-7 run to close out the first frame and take a 36-22 lead into the break.
In the first 4:30 of the second stanza, The Yeowomen fell behind 49-28 after a 13-6 run, ended by a layup from Parlor.
After a pair of Parlor free throws with 9:28 on the clock, the Yeowomen faced a 24-point deficit, 64-40. To close out the game, the Maroons composed a 19-7 run, pushing the final to 83-47 and the Oberlin women to their seventh loss of the year.
The loss drops the Yeowomen to 5-7 overall and 4-5 in non-conference action.
The Oberlin women will finish out the season with all North Coast Athletic Conference opponents and vie for a top spot in the NCAC Tournament. The Yeowomen will travel to Kenyon College on Wednesday, January 7, to begin their NCAC gauntlet.
