Greencastle, Ind. – The Oberlin College women's basketball team dropped a 73-52 decision to the DePauw University Tigers on Saturday afternoon at the Neal Fieldhouse.
The Tigers, who entered the game ranked 10
th in the WBCA Coaches' Poll, held the Yeowomen to 35.6-percent (21-of-59) shooting in the win. The victory marked the 93
rd straight home conference win for DePauw as they are now 18-1 overall and 11-0 in league play.
Lindsey Bernhardt was the lone Yeowoman to reach double figures as she finished with 13 points. Rookie
Abby Andrews added nine points and eight rebounds, but the Tigers held Oberlin's
Christina Marquette to just seven points, snapping a string of nine consecutive games in double digits.
A traditional 3-point play by Bernhardt put the Yeowomen out in front, 15-12, with 13:27 left in the first half, but Tigers responded by ripping off a 20-2 run over the next eight minutes to claim a 32-17 advantage. However, the Yeowomen would rally to cut the deficit to nine, 34-25, heading into the break.
A Bernhardt triple-hit to start the second half shrunk the gap to just six, but the Tigers would quickly put an end to the upset bid by answering back with a 16-1 spurt to take a 50-30 lead with 13:40 left to play and never looked back.
Savannah Tress led DePauw with a game-high 22 points on 9-of-15 shooting. As a team they shot 45.3-percent (29-of-64) from the floor.
With the loss, Oberlin dropped to 11-9 overall and 7-4 in NCAC play.
The Yeowomen are back in action on Wednesday night when they travel to Denison University for an 8 p.m. tip.
