Oberlin, Ohio – Oberlin women's basketball was over powered by Denison University dropping its first North Coast Athletic Conference matchup to the Big Red, 72-48.
Lindsey Bernhardt led the Yeowomen in scoring with a game-high 25 points. Bernhardt finished with four rebounds and two steals in the loss.
The Big Red jumped out to a 16-0 lead to open the game. The Big Red maintained their double-digit lead into the half.
After spotting Denison a 22-point advantage in the first stanza, 43-21, the Oberlin defense stepped up the intensity in the second half. The Yeowomen combined for nine steals accounting for 12 second half-points from Big Red turnovers.
The Oberlin women played a competitive second half, forcing 14 Denison turnovers. However, the first half deficit was too much to erase as Denison cruised to a 24-point victory.
First-year
Anna Moore fell one-point shy of tying a season-high with ten points. She finished with two rebounds, one assist, one block and three steals. Moore was the only other Yeowomen to hit double-figures scoring.
Denison was led by sophomore Jordan Holmes who registered a double-double with 18-points and 18 rebounds. Kellie Arter and Gabrielle Nottage also hit double-figures for the Big Red, tallying 14 and 17-points respectively.
Oberlin women's basketball returns to the hardwood when they take on Division-I power Youngstown State University. Tip off from Youngstown, Ohio between the Yeowomen and Penguins is slated for 2 p.m. on Saturday.
