Oberlin, Ohio – The hot-shooting Denison University Big Red cruised past the Oberlin College Yeomen, 90-56, on Wednesday night at Philips Gym.
Oberlin had no answers for sophomore guard Darius White as he tied a Denison school record with eight 3-pointers on 12 attempts en route to pouring in 26 points. As a team the Big Red checked in at 57.6-percent (34-of-59) from the floor.
On the flip side, Oberlin shot just 34-percent (18-of-53), which included a 4-of-17 (23.5%) effort from beyond the arc.
Nathan Cohen was the lone Yeomen in double figures with 14 points.
Oberlin scored the first four points of the game, but from then on it was all Denison. A White triple-hit made it 21-11 with 10:19 left to play. The Yeomen later trailed 29-19 before the Big Red blew the game open with a 14-5 run to close out the half and take a 43-24 cushion into the locker room.
In the second half the Big Red quickly extended the margin out to 30, 56-26, and would hold at least a 29-point lead the rest of the way.
Ian Campbell had another nice game off the Yeomen bench as he added nine points on 4-of-6 shooting to go along with three rebounds, two assists and two steals in 22 minutes of work.
With the victory Denison moved to 6-2 overall and 2-1 in the NCAC, while Oberlin dropped to 4-4 and 1-3 in the league.
Oberlin will close out the home portion of its 2014 schedule when DePauw University comes to town on Saturday afternoon for a 1 p.m. battle.
