Volleyball Beats Allegheny; Falls to Denison in Fifth-Place Match

Springfield, Ohio – Oberlin College volleyball dropped the Gators of Allegheny College, 3-1, to advance to the fifth-place match of the 2014 North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament, but were down in straight sets by the Big Red of Denison in the contest.

The Yeowomen surrendered the first set, 21-25, before taking the next three games from the Gators, 25-23, 25-15 and 25-18.
 
Junior Maddy Dunn led the Yeowomen offensively with a game-high 17 kills. First-year Dana Thomas and sophomore Hannah Tyburski added a combined 23 kills as the pair hit double figures respectively.
 
Sophomore Meredith Leung has another stellar game with 53 assists, one shy of a season-high.
 
It was a team effort defensively as four Yeowomen notched double digit digs. Junior Molly Powers led the way with 21 digs followed by sophomore Ave Spencer who registered 17. Krista Langhans and Shavonne Stanek rounded out the double-digit performers with 10 each.
 
Denison Recap: Fifth-Place Match

In the fifth-place match against the Denison Big Red the Yeowomen fell in straight sets, dropping each game 25-20.
 
Dunn and Thomas guided the attack by finishing with 10 and nine kills, respectively. Unfortunately it wasn't enough as the Yeowomen hit .110 for the match with 32 total kills against 18 errors.
 
Spencer and Powers combined for 28 digs, while Leung added 10 digs to go along with 28 assists and two aces. She ends the season with 880 total assists.
 
Oberlin finished the tournament in sixth place and ended its year with 13 wins and 19 losses. The Yeowomen have increased their win total in each season under fourth-year Head Coach Erica Rau.
