Yeowomen Defeat Bethany in 2014 Finale

Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College field hockey brought the 2014 campaign to an end with an electrifying 2-1 overtime victory over the Bison of Bethany (W.V.) College at the Austin E. Knowlton Athletics Complex.

The Yeowomen fell behind to the Bison less than a minute before the half as Bethany's Courtney Gill snuck a shot past Oberlin keeper Maggie Gossiaux. It would go as the only goal against Gossiaux on the day as she stood tall and registered 14 saves, including a clutch stop on a Bison penalty stroke.

Gossiaux's season total maxes out at a whopping 303. The sophomore from Metuchen, New Jersey, faced 578 shots on the year and finished with a save percentage of .785.

The Yeowomen trailed for nearly the entire second half despite earning a penalty stroke in the 56th minute. Sophomore Ariana Enzerink stepped in to take the penalty but her attempt knocked the right side post and bounced out.

The Yeowomen kept the offensive pressure on the Bison, registering nine shots in the second stanza. In the 68th minute, still trailing 1-0, the Oberlin was gifted another penalty stroke after senior Rachel Zuckerman drew a foul in the scoring area.

Maureen Coffey took the stroke and snuck the shot past the Bison keeper to pull the Yeowomen even and force overtime. The goal marked Coffey's fourth of the season.

Shortly into overtime, the Yeowomen earned a corner that was triggered by Taylor Swift. She sent a pass out top to Enzerink who wound up and released a shot that got by the Bison keeper to close out the 2014 season on a high note.

Oberlin finished the 2014 campaign at 3-13 overall and 2-12 in the North Coast Athletic Conference.
