Swarthmore, PA – The Oberlin College women's basketball team led by eight with seven and half minutes to play, but Johnson and Wales used a late surge to steal away a 62-59 win over the Yeowomen in the championship game of the Swarthmore College Tournament.
The Yeowomen were led by junior
Lindsey Bernhardt as she finished with a game-high 24 points, dialing in on five 3-pointers on the day. Senior
Christina Marquette, who was named to the all-tournament team, added 13 points, while
Katie Lucaites finished with 10 on 4-of-5 shooting.
Oberlin controlled the game throughout, leading by as many as 15, 45-30, following a
Tyler Parlor layup at the 11:22 mark of the second half. Unfortunately, the Wildcats battled back to earn the win.
The Wildcats evened the game at 55 all with just under three minutes to go, using a 16-6 run. They would extend the lead out to 59-55 with less than 30 seconds to play and ultimately put the game away for good at the free throw line.
The Yeowomen opened up the game on a 10-2 run and was never really threatened in the first half as they took a 37-23 lead into the intermission.
Oberlin shot 41.2-percent (21-51) from the floor, while the Wildcats checked in at 43.4-percent (23-of-53).
The Yeowomen will host Adrian College on Wednesday night. Tip time is set for 7 p.m.
