DePauw Holds Off Late Yeomen Surge

Oberlin, Ohio – Oberlin men's composed a late offensive surge against the DePauw Tigers, but the two-goal deficit was too much to overcome.

Two first half goals drove the Oberlin men to a 2-1 defeat, moving them to 5-6-2 on the year. The Yeomen now stand at 2-2-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference.

The Tigers struck early by opening the scoring in the 10th minute. Oberlin keeper Oidie Kuijpers came out to meet DePauw forward, Julian Gonzalez, but the Tiger pegged a shot off of the inside of the right post and in.

The Tigers moved ahead 2-0 in the 32nd minute. The Tiger's Mitch Tabler tacked on the second DePauw goal with a shot that snuck past a diving Kuijpers.

The Yeomen cut the DePauw lead in half with a goal by Dean Schapow in the 62nd minute. Schapow fired a 28-yard shot from the right side that fell into the upper 90. The goal marks Schapow's first of the season.

In the last 15 minutes, the Yeomen outshot the Tigers 6-2 but the DePauw keeper and the back line fend off the Oberlin attacks.

Senior, leading goal scorer John Ingham led the Oberlin men with five shots against the Tigers. Junior Slade Gottlieb and Schapow accounted for two shots each. The last of Oberlin's late offensive threats was a pearl off of the foot of Sam Bernard that said just high of the DePauw net at the 88:54 mark.

The Yeomen return to the pitch on Tuesday, October 21 when they host the Big Red of Denison University. First touch from underneath the lights of Fred Shults Field is slated for 7 p.m.
