Box Score
Chillicothe, Ohio – The Oberlin College Baseball team had a short-lived lead following
Ben Whitener's first-career home run in the top of the fourth inning, but the top-seeded College of Wooster responded with nine unanswered runs to upend the Yeomen, 11-3, in the opening round of the NCAC Tournament on Thursday morning.
The Scots manufactured a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning, but from there Yeomen starter
Mike McDonald settled down nicely – sitting down six of the next seven Wooster hitters.
Mitch Novak led off the fourth with a single through the left side and Daniel Baldocchi would later follow with a two-out double to the gap in right center. Whitener then came up and belted a key three-run home run over the wall in right to give the Yeomen a 3-2 lead.
Unfortunately, for Yeomen fans the lead did not last long as Wooster responded with three straight hits in the bottom of the fourth to quickly regain the lead at 4-3. Another single would result in the third run of the inning to come home and leave the Yeomen staring at a two-run deficit.
It would remain a 5-3 game until the bottom of seventh when the Scots would bust the game open with a four-run inning, before adding two more in the eighth.
Despite pitching well, McDonald suffered his fourth loss of the season as he was charged with allowing nine runs (eight earned) on 10 hits. He walked just one and stuck out five.
Wooster's Keegan White improved to 11-0 as his lone mistake came on Whitener's home run. He allowed just four hits over seven innings.
Novak was the only Yeomen with more than one hit in the game as he checked in at 2-for-4 with a run scored.
The Yeomen will now take on the loser of the Denison vs. Allegheny game, which is currently being played. First pitch of that game is scheduled for 7 p.m.
