Track and Field Competes Well at Ashland and NCAC Combined Events Championships

NCAC Combined Events Champhionship Day One Results


Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College men's and women's track and field teams finished Saturday with several strong performances from athletes at the Ashland University Alumni Open and the NCAC Combined Events Championships at Ohio Wesleyan University.
 
First-year Larisa Lewis broke the Oberlin school record in the shot put at the Ashland University Alumni Open with a throw of 40-11.75. Lewis' throw was good for 12th place out of the field of 27.
 
In track events, senior Daniel Johnson started the day with a win in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:58.38, while sophomore Jerry Choi placed sixth in the 400-meter hurdles at 55.85.

In the 800-meter run, junior Katrina Gelwick turned in a tenth-place time of 2:25.81.

The long-distance Yeowomen continued to run well, as sophomore Erica Morelli took fourth (19:07.45) and classmate Lauren Coombs finished in tenth (20:12.22) in the 5000-meter run.
 
At the NCAC Combined Events Championships, first-year Caroline Summa sits in third place of the women's heptathlon after one day of competition, while seniors Sean Dembowski and Vlad Bursuc are seventh and tenth, respectively, in the men's decathlon.
 
Summa competed well, as she took first in the 100-meter hurdles, second in the high jump, and fourth in the 200-meter dash.

Dembowski took fourth in the long jump at 20-02.25, while Bursac's top finish came in the long jump, as well, with a seventh-place height of 18-05.25.
 
The combined events will continue tomorrow, April 28, from Ohio Wesleyan University at 10 a.m.
