Oberlin Track and Field Runs Well at Baldwin Wallace

Berea, Ohio – The Oberlin College men's and women's track and field teams competed in the 2013 Sparky Adams Invitational at Baldwin Wallace University on Saturday with a number of top-10 finishes in several events.
 
The Yeowomen were led by junior Emma Lehmann and senior Marissa Clardy who took first places in the 1500-meter and 800-meter run, respectively. Lehmann finished at the front of the pack with a time of 4:50.19, while Clardy sped to a first-place time of 2:17.58.
 
Three other Yeowomen placed in the top-10 of the 800 in addition to Clardy. Junior Katrina Gelwick took fifth at 2:21.09, while first-year Deirdre Haren and Amanda Garcia took seventh and ninth at 2:23.11 and 2:24.30, respectively.
 
Junior Sophia Brancazio finished in fifth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:01.08, while senior Jasmine Owens took fourth in the long jump with a distance of 16-09.25.
 
On the men's side, sophomore Jerry Choi led Oberlin with a first place finish in the 400-meter hurdles, crossing at 58.19. Senior Sean Dembowski followed with a fourth place time of 1:00.32, while sophomore #Evan Finch took seventh with a time of 1:02.17.
 
In the 800-meter run, junior Jimmy Taylor posted a second place time of 1:55.94, while two other Yeomen also placed in the top-10. Junior Quinn Hull and freshman Robert Moreton finished in ninth and 10th with times of 2:03.81 and 2:03.86, respectively.
 
Oberlin was also well represented in the 1500-meter run, as three Yeomen finished in the top-10 again. Freshman Geno Arthur took sixth at 4:13.19, sophomore Leo Harrington finished in ninth at 2:03.81, and senior Daniel Johnson crossed in tenth at 4:16.33.
 
In field events, senior Alex Guo took first in the triple jump at 45-11.25 and sixth in the long jump with a distance of 20-09.00. Freshman Nate Danko tied for fourth in the pole vault with a height of 12-06.00.
 
The Oberlin men's and women's track and field teams will continue their seasons next week at the Hillsdale Gina Relays in Hillsdale, Mich. on April 26 at 5p.m., the Ashland University Alumni Meet in Ashland, Ohio on April 27 at 10 a.m., and the NCAC Combined Events Championships on April 26 and 27 beginning at 10 a.m. at Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio.
