Oberlin, Ohio – A day after sweeping a doubleheader from Allegheny College, the Oberlin College baseball team did not play with the same sense of urgency as the visiting Gators got their revenge, taking both games of Sunday's twinbill by the scores of 6-2 and 11-5.

Highlighting the day for Oberlin were sophomores Daniel Baldocchi and Andrew Hutson. Baldocchi went 4-for-8 with a double and an RBI while Hutson extended his hitting streak to 12 games as he was 3-for-7 with three runs scored. The Chevy Chase, Maryland, native also hit his first-career home run in game two. In the series he batted .615 (8-for-15), scoring five runs to go along with three RBI's, a home run and a double to raise his season batting average to .518.

In game one the Yeomen got on the board early, scoring a run in the bottom of the first on Jeff Schweighoffer's sac fly to right field to score Mitch Novak who led off the game with a double.

However, in the top of the third the Gators would use two hits and a key Oberlin error to take the lead on two unearned runs that would score on Matt Sardini's double. In the fourth the Gators would tack on two more off of Yeomen starter Eric Knight, using three hits and one error in the inning to take a 4-1 lead.  Knight was in a trouble again in the fifth as four straight one-out singles by the Gators ultimately chased him from the game with a 5-1 deficit. Junior Sam Sharpe came in to work out of a bases-loaded one-out jam to keep the Yeomen within striking distance.

Knight, who was honored before the game as part of senior day, got through 4.1 innings, allowing five runs (three earned) on nine hits. He walked one and struck out one while falling to 1-3 on the year.

The Yeomen threatened in the sixth as Robin Witjes came through with a two-out RBI single to score Hutson, but Gators' pitcher Eric Brandt was able to limit the damage.

Allegheny added an insurance run in the top of the seventh to go up by four runs, however, the Yeomen still brought the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the frame.  Two walks in-between a pair of outs brought Hutson to the plate against reliever Paul Vojtek. He went on to strikeout Hutson, but the ball got away from the Gators' catcher to allow him to reach first base safely and bring Baldocchi up to the plate with the bases-loaded. Unfortunately, Vojtek was also able to fan him to end the game.

Brandt earned the win as he went six innings, scattering nine hits and allowing just two earned runs. He walked two and struck out two en route to improving to 4-0 on the season.

In game two the Yeomen dug themselves a 7-0 hole before they finally came to life in the fifth inning.

Allegheny scored two in the second, before exploding for five in the fourth off of Yeomen starter Ben Whitener. They used five hits and two Oberlin errors in the inning to post the crooked number. The big hit came courtesy of Frank Triozzi who hit a two-run home run over the wall in left.

The Yeomen tried to crawl their way back into it as Hutson started the comeback bid with a deep solo home run over the wall in left center in the fifth. Knight would then follow in the sixth with a towering two-run home run that went over the trees beyond the left-field wall to make it a 7-3 game.

Allegheny would answer back with a single tally in the seventh on Ben Kirchler's solo home run to lead off the inning, but Oberlin would get the margin back down to four by plating a run of its own in the bottom of the frame. However, it could have been more as a single, error and a walk loaded the bases with nobody out, but the only person to score was Hutson on a groundout by Novak.

Oberlin would make it an 8-5 game, scoring another run in the eighth on Baldocchi's single to centerfield, but the Gators would belt out five more hits and score three more in the top of the ninth to leave no doubt in the eventual outcome.

The game would end in the bottom of the ninth on a double play. It was one of six the Yeomen hit into on the day.

Along with Knight, Witjes, Cohen and Sharpe were all honored before the game.  While just juniors, Cohen and Sharpe will be leaving Oberlin next year to attend Columbia University as part of the 3-2 engineering program.

Oberlin now sits at 13-13 overall and 6-4 in the NCAC East. Allegheny improved to 16-7 and 6-2 in league play.

The Yeomen return to action next weekend at the College Wooster for another key NCAC East series.
