Avon, Ohio – The results were the same as yesterday, but the means of getting there were much different as the Oberlin College baseball team had to come from behind in both games to defeat the D'Youville College Spartans by the scores of 6-4 and 11-5 on Sunday afternoon at All-Pro Freight Stadium in Avon, Ohio.

In the lid-lifter, Oberlin ace Eric Knight struggled with his command as he allowed three runs (two earned) in just 3.2 innings of work, while walking six. The Scottsdale, Arizona, native looked locked in for the start, fanning the first two hitters of the game, but an error behind him resulted in the inning being extending and a run coming across for the Spartans. However, they did leave the bases loaded, but not before Knight threw 35 pitches in the frame.

D'Youville added another tally in the third inning as they worked the bases loaded with nobody out, but once again Knight was able to limit the damage by stranding three Spartans on the base paths. D'Youville would later take a 3-0 lead in the fourth inning, ultimately chasing Knight from the game who threw 98 pitches and struck out six in the no decision.

Freshman Jesse Kohler recorded his first career punch-out, sitting down Eric Simoncelli with a 3-2 fastball for the final out of the fourth inning. Again, the Spartans would leave two out on the bases as they left 12 runners stranded in the game.

The Yeomen would finally get on the board in the home half of fourth inning, using two hits and two Spartans' errors to plate a pair of runs to make it a 3-2 game. Kohler tossed a 1-2-3 fifth and his teammates rewarded him by putting him in line for his first collegiate win by posting four runs in the home-half of the inning.

More sloppy defense by the Spartans coupled with two Yeomen hits resulted in them taking a 6-3 lead. Andrew Hutson continued his sensational weekend with an RBI single to center and Kevin Verne would later send Mike McDonald home on an RBI groundout to short, while the last run of the inning came across on a picture perfect squeeze bunt by Mitch Novak to score Hutson.

The Spartans took advantage of two OC miscues to get a run back in the sixth, but McDonald was able to escape a dicey situation in the seventh that saw the Spartans load the bases before he was able to earn his first save of the season.

The nightcap started eerily similar to game one as the Spartans scratched out single tallies in each of the first three innings to lead 3-0, before the Oberlin bats finally came alive.

The Yeomen erupted for seven runs in the fourth inning, sending 11 men to the plate in the offensive barrage. Mattie DeDoes got the rally started with an RBI single to right center that scored Ben Whitener. Sean Cohen, Brian Hemmert, and Mitch Novak all followed with run-producing singles of their own. Whitener would later come up again and get credited with two RBI's on a fielder's choice groundout.

The hit parade put rookie Kelby Spring in line for the win as he pitched a clean fourth inning.

D'Youville got back into the game by scoring a run in both the fifth and sixth innings, but the Yeomen left no doubt in the eventual outcome by plating four runs of their own in the bottom of the frame.

Whitener's single to center plated Novak for the first run of the inning and Zach Jaspers would later follow with a sac fly before Cohen would tack on his second RBI of the game. Hutson would then score on a double steal as Cohen intentionally got into a run down between first and second to allow Hutson to race home.

Daniel Baldocchi tossed the final inning for the Yeomen to secure the win. Novak finished 4-for-4 two runs scored and an RBI in the game.

The Yeomen are scheduled to play at Siena Heights in Adrian, Michigan, on Wednesday afternoon with the first game set for 1 p.m.
