Another Record Falls on Day Two of the Golden Gala

Results

Kent, Ohio – The Kent State Golden Gala came to an end on Saturday night, but not before another Oberlin school record went by the wayside.

“It was a great opening weekend for us,” Head Coach Ray Appenheimer said. “For three school records to fall in the first meet of the year is truly impressive and means only greater things are yet to come.”

First-year Larisa Lewis became the first female in school history to throw the shot put over 40 feet as she establish a new Oberlin mark with a toss 41-01.50. She secured the record from sophomore teammate Tiffany Henry who just set the previous mark of 38-00.75 last season.

Another rookie who impressed on Saturday was Caroline Summa as she placed ninth out of 23 competitors in the high jump by clearing 5-01.

Later in the evening, junior Sophia Brancazio turned in an excellent run in the 200 as she stopped the clock in 26.64. Classmate Katrina Gelwick also excelled in the 400 with a timestamp of 1:00.91.

Sophomore Nora Ryan checked in 11th in the 28-runner field of the 800 by completing the course in 2:25.50.

On the men's side of the ledger, freshman Dan Bolotsky got the day going with a strong toss of 36-05.75 in the shot put. Fellow first-year Nathan Danko would later add an impressive clear of 12-11.50 in the pole vault to tie for seventh overall.

Looking build off a solid freshman campaign, sophomore Jerry Choi picked up where he left off by flying through the 400 in 51.67.

The track and field teams will continue practicing over the holiday break before returning to competition on January 11 when they host their Oberlin Invitational event.
