Oberlin Harriers Hone Skills at Home

Oberlin, Ohio – Both men's and women's Track & Field teams took to the track at home in the Bob Kahn Invitational, which wrapped up this evening. While the event was not scored, both teams were able to compete as they hone their skills for the upcoming NCAC Championships next weekend at Ohio Wesleyan University.

Standing out for the women, Laura Vernon dropped a full second from her seed time in the Women's 200m finishing in front of the field with a time of 27.40. Her relay teammate Marissa Clardy bested the competition in the 400m finishing in 59.22 seconds.

Leading the distance crew was Piper Nash who won the 3000m Steeplechase. Her time, 12:56.66, was seven seconds better than her seedtime.

On the men's side sophomore Shawn Chrapczynski led the way, winning the 200m with a time of 22.07 seconds, just ahead of Oberlin teammate Seth Wimberly.

The distance runners also performed well as Joe Dawson took first in the 1500m stopping the clock in 4:09.14. Senior Sam Ghitleman finished second in 4:17.91, besting his own seedtime by nearly four seconds.

Sophomore Stephen Williams took first in the 5000m, while Justin Warner took second place making the most impressive drop of the day. Warner finished the race in 15:52.44, dropping a whopping twenty-five seconds from his seedtime.

Select Oberlin athletes will be in competition this weekend as Oberlin will open up the 2010 NCAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, as they will host the multi-event portion of the meet Saturday and Sunday this weekend.
