Delaware, Ohio – On a cool day in southern Ohio, both men's and women's Track & Field teams brought their own heat as two school records fell and three champions were crowned at today's NCAA Division III All-Ohio Track & Field competition.  Both Oberlin squads finished the day in 7th place, the men scoring 33 points, while the women tallied 64.

Freshman sensation Eric Line crossed the finish line first to win the Men's 5000-meter run in this his first trip to the All-Ohio meet. Line blazed around the oval in a new Oberlin record time of 15:11.46. The new mark set by Line is more than three seconds faster than the previous record set by Hugh Finn in 1995.

Line was joined by super sophomore Stephen Williams in scoring points for the men's team out of the distance crew. Williams cleared the 3000-meter Steeplechase course in 5th place with a time of 9:36.22.

While there were a number of strong performances for the Yeomen, senior Seth Wimberly also stood out with a 6th place performance in the 400-meter dash with a single lap timed at 49.76.

The women in crimson and gold were equal to the task and had a number of outstanding individual performances as well, including a single record breaking race on their side.

At the end of the meet the relay team of Madeline Schultz, Laura Vernon, Amanda Miller, and Marissa Clardy provided some excitement as they won the 4x400 meter relay in a school record time of 3:58.53. The school record effort was nearly five seconds faster than the race they combined to run just one week ago. Furthermore, this clique becomes the first relay in Oberlin school history to break the 4:00 barrier!

Head Coach Ray Appenheimer said, “It was a good day all around for Oberlin Track and Field! The two records that fell are exciting, and I can say with confidence that this 4x400 is really fun to watch. All our athletes put forth really great efforts and hopefully they are getting to see some of the work they put in everyday come back and show out here. Coach Hudson and I know the kinds of great effort our athletes put in on a daily basis and on days like today our coaches get to watch some terrific races that end with terrific results.”

Also winning an All-Ohio event for the women was senior Minnesotan Clara Shaw. Coming from a state known for producing great middle distance runners, Shaw did not disappoint, winning the 800m run in a speedy time of 2:15.09. Shaw also finished second in the 1500m run stopping the clock in 4:40.75.

Fellow senior Cordelia Revells placed third in the 5000m run in a time of 18:12.21. Maddie Schultz also recorded a top-three individual effort as the runner-up in the 400m hurdles. She ended the race with her own time of 1:04.33.

Both teams will be in action again next weekend, as Oberlin will play host to the Bob Kahn Invitational on April 23rd.
