Kent, Ohio – The Oberlin College track and field teams began their 2010-11 indoor season at the Kent Golden Gala on Friday afternoon.

With a limited schedule of events, Oberlin still turned in some impressive performances. It was sophomore Alexander Guo who got things started off on the right foot as he covered 20-06 in the long jump.

Senior Laura Vernon also cleared 10-02 in the pole vault to finish in a tie for 14th place.

Competing in her first collegiate track meet, first-year Margaret Lindman turned in a solid run in the 5,000 meters by completing the course in 19:32.50 to finish in ninth place in the 17-runner field.

“It was good first day for us, and tomorrow we will have a full slate of events and I expect to see a lot of positive results,” Head Coach Ray Appenheimer said.

Day two of the Kent State Golden Gala will get underway tomorrow at 10 a.m.
