Jason James turned in strong effort in a losing cause on Sunday.
Game One Box l Game Two Box

Oberlin, Ohio – Jack Dunn and Jason James each turned in strong starting pitching performances, but the Oberlin College bats were silent for the majority of the day which allowed Allegheny College to leave town with a pair wins (4-1, 5-4) and the series victory.

For the second time in as many starts, Jack Dunn was the tough-luck-loser in eight innings. The southpaw from Lake Havasu, Arizona, was dealing as he entered the top of the seventh with a 1-0 lead. After getting the first hitter of the frame, Charlie Fine singled to left. A balk call sent pinch runner Anthony Wilbur to second and with two down he came around to score on a seeing-eye single through the left side as confusion between the Yeomen shortstop and third baseman allowed the ball to sneak through.

Oberlin had a chance to win it in regulation as back-to-back walks put two men on with one out in the bottom of the seventh. However, Mike Pereslucha, who worked seven innings, allowing two hits while striking out eight, induced a pop out and strikeout to get out of the jam.

In the eighth inning, the first two hitters reached base to chase Dunn out of the game. Senior #P.J. Carter# tried to limit the damage, but Zach Skowvron had other ideas as he belted a three-run home run over the left field fence.

Oberlin, who had just two hits in the game, scored its only run of the contest in to the bottom of the first on single to right field by Jeremy Simon to score James.

Dunn scattered seven hits and walked just three while fanning five Gators along the way. The junior threw 112 pitches – 65 for strikes. In Dunn's last three outings – all losses, the Yeomen have combined to score just four runs.

In the nightcap, Oberlin had single tallies in each of the first four innings, but Alex Herrnberger's solo shot for the Gators in the top of the sixth proved to be the difference in the end.

James sprinkled seven hits over seven innings and displayed pinpoint control as he walked just one. The Louisville, Colorado, product added two Ks and allowed just two earned runs.

After the two teams traded runs in the first, Allegheny recorded three unearned runs in the second as an error by the Yeomen extended the inning.

However, Oberlin would crawl back to even on an RBI single by Ben Kauder in the second, Ben Puterbaugh's leadoff home run in the third, and Brian Verne's sac fly in the fourth. Unfortunately, Oberlin mustered-up just one hit the rest of the way – falling to 8-22 overall and 1-11 in the NCAC East.

The Yeomen will step out of conference for a mid-week match-up at Case Western Reserve on Wednesday.
