New Concord, Ohio – The Oberlin College baseball team won game one 9-5, but fell 8-6 in game two to earn a split against Muskingum College on Saturday.

Sophomore Phil Brua guided the Yeomen to their first victory of the season in game one by pitching 6.2 innings - striking out three Muskies along the way. The hard-throwing right-hander cruised through the front six frames with just one run allowed, before getting touched up for four runs in the seventh. Freshman Drew Mixter picked up the final out of the game in relief.

Senior #P.J. Carter busted the game open in the seventh with a three-run double and finished with four RBIs on the day. Zach Berman#, Jeremy Simon and Brandon Cantrill also added two hits apiece in the game.

In game two, the Yeomen and Muskies were tied at two going into the sixth, but the home team posted a six-run inning to claim an 8-2 lead. Oberlin used five different pitchers in the frame as they combined to issue five walks in the inning.

However, the Yeomen responded by battling back with four runs in the top of the seventh, a rally which was jump started by a lead-off home run by Simon. Unfortunately, the threat got short-circuited before the Yeomen could complete the comeback.

Ben Master and Ben Puterbaugh each added two hits and a run-batted-in in the ball game.

Oberlin will now rest up for its annual spring break trip to Phoenix, Arizona where they will play 12 games in six days. All the action gets underway on March 21.
