The Oberlin College track and field team concluded its season-opening meet on Saturday with some strong performances at Kent State's Golden Gala Open.

“This was a good way for us to start our season against many tough Division I runners,” head coach Ray Apppenheimer said. “Kent State always puts on a great event in a top-notch facility.”

Amanda Miller clocked in a 1:00.47 in the women's 400-meter dash to finish 14th overall in a highly competitive Division I field.

Hillary Tipton also turned in a 5:32.03 mile to finish eighth in the 29-runner field.

On the men's side first-year Reshard Shair-el touched the tape in 50.81 in the 400-meter dash to place 15th. He also stopped the watch at 23.03 in the 200-meter dash, ending in 16th place.

Albert Davila shined in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:00.79 to end 12th overall.

Oberlin will return to competition after the new year when it plays host to its first of four indoor invitational meets on January 16.
