Jay Anderson enters his sixth season as Oberlin’s head football coach in 2019 after officially being named as the program’s leader on February 4, 2014.

Since taking over, Anderson has reshaped the culture of the Yeomen football program.

  • Led the Yeomen at a 4-6 record in 2017, marking the best record for the program since 2012
  • Mentored five All-NCAC players in 2017 including Special Teams Player of the Year Bryant Walker and first-team place kicker Michael Leshchyshyn.
  • Oberlin's 3,862 yards off offense in 2018 ranks first in program history
  • Quarterback Zach Taylor '20 set the school record for total offense with 2,525 yards in 2017
  • Under Anderson, wide receiver Ryan Gleeson '19 became the first 1,000 yard receiver in school history with 1,084 in 2018 while also becoming the Yeomen all-time leader in receiving touchdowns in a season with 13 in 2018
  • Anderson's 2018 team generated 193 first downs which ranks second best all time
  • Oberlin's 1,510 rushing yards in 2018 ranks third all-time
  • Has produced 14 all-conference players in his four seasons
  • In 2015 he guided the Yeomen to a 28-23 road win at Wooster, marking the first win over the Scots since 2003
  • Improved upon the team’s win total from year one to year two.
  • Earned his first win as head coach on September 13, 2014 with a 47-28 defeat of Kenyon
  • Worked as Oberlin’s defensive coordinator in 2013, guiding an Oberlin defense that finished fourth in the NCAC in total defense and third in red-zone defense. Under his tutelage, the Yeomen also recorded two shutout victories – a feat that has not happened since the 1946 season
  • Four of five Oberlin’s All-NCAC selections in 2013 were defensive players
  • Spent the 2012 season as a member of the coaching staff at Division II Notre Dame College in Euclid, Ohio. He was previously with the Yeomen on part-time basis for three seasons, working as the team's defensive backs coach from 2009-11.
  • A former football and track athlete at Oberlin High School, Anderson went on to start 48 games at defensive back at the University of Toledo. He helped the Rockets win the 2001 Mid-American Conference Championship and the West Division titles in 2000 and 2002.  In high school, he was the state champion in the 100-meter dash in 1997 and 1998
  • Graduated from Toledo in 2003 with a bachelor's of arts degree in English
