Lori Shulman is in her first season as head women's tennis coach at Oberlin College.
Shulman came to Oberlin after spending the last seven seasons as the head coach of the men's and women's tennis teams at Trinity College (CT) where she mentored a plethora of All-NESCAC selections and ITA All-Academic honorees.Â
Earning a combined 48 dual-match victories in one of the best tennis conferences in the country, Shulman has coached regionally and nationally ranked players during her tenure with the Bantam.Â
Shulman, who spent the 2014-15 season as an assistant coach at Trinity before being promoted to head coach, has previous experience in the North Coast Athletic Conference at both Denison University and the College of Wooster.Â
During a successful four-year run (2010-14) as an assistant coach at Denison, Shulman aided in recruiting two classes that were ranked inside the top 18 in the nation and coached five NCAA All-Americans. In 2011, the Big Red won their 10th straight NCAC title and ranked as high as sixth in the nation.Â
Prior to her time in Granville, she spent six years (2004-10) as the head coach at Wooster while also assisting with the women's basketball team.Â
Shulman's coaching career began at Hamilton College (NY) where she spent two years (2002-04) as an assistant tennis and squash coach.Â
A former three-sport athlete at Denison University, Shulman graduated in 1999 with a degree in psychology and later earned a master's degree in coaching education from Ohio University in 2002 while working as a graduate assistant.Â
She was inducted into the Hawken School Hall of Fame in 2019 for her high school accomplishments in tennis, basketball, and softball.
A member of the United States Tennis Association (USTA) and Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), Shulman is also a United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) certified professional and was part of the NCAA Women's Coaches' Academy in 2016.
