Monique Newton led the Yeowomen to a season opener first place finish at the Fifth Annual Spartan Classic last weekend. The senior from Sacramento, California won the shot put (48-02.75) and weight throw (57-9.50) events. The defending national champions throw in the shot put ranks first in the country, while her toss in the weight is tied for the best time.
